Clara Vale

Service Description

Join me for a relaxed and meaningful 5.5 km spring walk through one of Ireland’s most beautiful native woodlands - the magical Vale of Clara, one of the last remaining ancient oak woodlands in Ireland. As we wander along ancient forest paths, you’ll learn how to recognise native trees such as oak, birch, holly, and hazel through their leaves, bark, shape, and overall form - while also discovering the important role they play in Ireland’s ecology, biodiversity, folklore, and cultural history. We’ll explore the subtle details often overlooked on everyday walks, from the textures of mosses and lichens to birdsong echoing through the woodland canopy, helping you slow down and deepen your connection with the forest at the height of summer. Guided by Dr. Kamila Kwasniewska - botanist and experienced hiking guide - this walk is an invitation to slow down and truly experience the forest. Along the way, we may spot red squirrels, hear the rhythmic drumming of woodpeckers, or glimpse red kites soaring above the canopy. 🐾 Family-friendly 🐕 Dog-friendly (on lead) 🥾 Suitable for all levels ⏳ Approx. 2 hours 🕙 Start at 10 am 💶 €12.50 per person After booking, you’ll receive an email with meeting point directions and helpful preparation tips. Reviews from previous participants: "Great experience in a beautiful location, thank you Kamila I learnt a lot about native Irish trees and botany. A lovely morning spent chatting and connecting with nature." - Helen M. - June 2025
