Guided Autumn Woodland Walk - October 17
Join the guided walk through the Vale of Clara Nature Reserve!
Service Description
Join me for a relaxed and inspiring 5.5 km autumn walk through one of Ireland's most beautiful native woodlands – the magical Vale of Clara, one of the last remaining ancient oak woodlands in Ireland. As we wander along ancient forest paths, you'll learn how to recognise native trees such as oak, birch, holly, and hazel through their leaves, bark, shape, and overall form, while discovering the important role they play in Ireland's ecology, biodiversity, and cultural history. Autumn is one of the most fascinating times to explore the woodland. We'll discover colourful fungi emerging from the forest floor, notice seeds and fruits preparing the next generation of trees, admire the changing colours of the canopy, and explore how plants and wildlife prepare for the colder months ahead. We'll also take time to appreciate the quieter side of the forest, from the textures of mosses and lichens to birdsong and the changing atmosphere of the woodland. Guided by Dr Kamila Kwasniewska – botanist and experienced hiking guide – this walk is an invitation to slow down, become curious, and experience the forest through the changing season. Along the way, we may spot red squirrels gathering food for winter, hear the rhythmic drumming of woodpeckers, or glimpse red kites soaring above the canopy. 🐾 Family-friendly 🐕 Dog-friendly (on lead) 🥾 Suitable for all levels ⏳ Approx. 2 hours 🕙 Start at 10 am 💶 €12.50 per person After booking, you'll receive an email with directions to the meeting point and a few tips to help you prepare. Reviews from previous participants "Great experience in a beautiful location, thank you Kamila. I learnt a lot about native Irish trees and botany.
